• Composition of steel and their effects on mechanical properties of steel, Fe-C phase equilibrium diagram, atomic structure, phases in steel, types of alloys, strengthening of steel, different states of metals, TTT & CCT curves.
• Grain and grain size & modes of fractures.
• Basics of heat treatment and various heat treatment processes for different applications.
• Types of metal joining processes, types of welded joints, weld edge preparation, weld metal composition, heat input, heat transfer equation, distortion due to residual stresses.
• Fusion welding methods, welding electrode types & carbon equivalent.
• Welding discontinuities / defects and remedial methods, hydrogen-induced cracking.
• Intergranular corrosion in stainless steel.
